Watches are not just essential time pieces but fashion and style statements as well. There are two main categories of watch movements, quartz and mechanical movements. Quartz movements operate by battery and are extremely accurate, losing only a few seconds per month, and the convenience of only having to replace the battery every one and a half to two years adds to its appeal. Baume & Mercier offers classic Men's Watches combining a unique combination of modern elements with classical ones in their newest collection called the Classima Collection. By its very nature, the Classima can be worn in any setting; it empowers the wear to transition smoothly from the strict dress codes of the city to more relaxed settings in the country. Rooted firmly in tradition, the brand is a sign of inner success made to be shared in a subtle manner. The new Classima models are done in this spirit and embody discreet masculinity and timeless chic. The 42mm size case is driven by automatic Dubois Depraz 14400 movement decorated with Cotes de Geneve motif.
The jumping-hour function is beautifully paired with a silvered barleycorn or "grain d'orge" guilloche dial with black Arabic numerals, riveted dots and indexes and a sapphire crystal case back displaying the oscillating weight engraved with the brands PHI symbol. It is a limited and numbered edition of 500 pieces and will be released in the fall of 2011. Features of the watch are the stainless steel case and the black alligator strap. The strap has an adjustable triple folding buckle for security and the timepiece is water-resistant to 30 meters.
Another new piece in the Classima Collection is their 18 carat red gold model giving the design a bit more warmth and a sophisticated look. It is driven by self-winding Soprod 9035 movement with Cotes de Geneve motif and a black dial featuring straight line guilloche design with gilt hour markers. The hour, minute, second and indicator hands are done in red gold matching nicely with the case metal. This model comes in a 39mm case with Roman numerals on the dial and appliqué indexes. The date window is displayed at the 3 o'clock position. It is water- resistant to 30 meters. The strap is made from black alligator with a red gold pin and buckle designed clasp. This timepiece has a power reserve function displayed at the 6 o'clock position and a dual time zone displayed in a sub-dial at 12 o'clock. An exhibition case back displays the oscillating weight showing the PHI symbol of the brand. It will also be launched in the Fall of 2011.
Since 1830, when the Baume family opened one of the first watch shops in the Jura Mountains of Switzerland they soon became one of the major players in the industry.
